I'm a relative newcomer to Aphex Twin and just picked up Drukqs. It's insane and wonderful. The only other CD I own by him is Selected Ambient Works 85-92. Obviously quite different. Any suggestions as to which should be my next AT CD? I'm so incredibly broke these days that I have to plan my music purchases carefully.

Re: Drukqs
Tue, January 6, 2004 - 1:01 AMi would def say either...i care because you do or richard d. james album. (i care) is my personal fav, my favorite aphex track is on that album (alberto balsam). its a little less crazy and a little more classical(please dont attack me its only my opinion). but either one is fantastic. actually all of his albums are pretty fantastic.
hope it helps a little

Re: Drukqs
Tue, January 6, 2004 - 11:39 AMI'd agree with going for "Richard D. James". It's a little less harsh than "I Care..."
I'm a fan of "Classics". There's a live version of Digeridoo that is amazing.
Also, see if you can find the five track EP of PowerPill Pacman -- awesome. -

Re: Drukqs
Tue, April 19, 2005 - 5:38 PMI think dRuKqs is my favorite album.
Am I nuts or do many fans not like this album? I have just not come across significant corroboration of my praise.
Maybe I'm getting stupider. RDJ just took some random tracks, put them together over a weekend and put them in no particular order, and I assume it's ingenious...
I don't *think* this, but... I don't know. I always assumed my sense of taste was beyond reproach..! And I think this album is amazing and just one of the five best CDs I own from the past decade. I bought it again when I couldn't illicit it from an ex... ::weeps:: :*P -

Re: Drukqs
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 1:16 AMi enjoy it as well and im a long time fan, but it does seem almost like two albums- half of the material sounds 'i care..'/ 'd james..' era w/ a little tweek- and then the other half lush littlemelting ditties. my only qualm is on vinyl it comes in a unnecessarily oversized box to fit 4 lps, its really nice fat heavy gram though. looking forward to the next... -

Re: Drukqs
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 1:38 PMperhaps one reason drukqs seems like a random compilation is that he had to rush to release. apparently, richard d. james left an mp3 player full of every song on this album on a plane. he released it for fear of someone else getting their dirty little mits on it.

Re: Drukqs
Mon, August 8, 2005 - 3:25 PMHands down, you must get "I care because you do", it is his best I think! Also you can check out "Richard D. James" which is more like drukqs but way more advanced. Any questions you have I can help, just ask!
