where could i look for any clues as to how some of a.t.'s often highly modified instruments work? i guess there are some fearsome digital processes going on, as well as some analog circuit bending (see tribe thereof). i love it.
meanwhile, am renovating an ancient 'transcendent 2000' monosynth; might look at warping its innards for a laugh!

Re: aphex twin technology?
Fri, October 10, 2003 - 12:58 PMLast I heard he was doing everything through software that he writes. I was curious if he was using max/msp for his newer stuff. I remember one interview I read where he was trying to make software that will write music the way he thinks. That way he didn't have to work and he could just sit around & be stoned & have sex with his GF. -

Re: aphex twin technology?
Fri, October 10, 2003 - 1:12 PMisnt that the way that autechre both write their latest albums...through a software that essentially runs through set rules and logics that they apply so that it formulates tracks in their "branded" style? -

Re: aphex twin technology?
Fri, October 10, 2003 - 9:07 PMI know autechre use max/msp, as well as some analog gear and turntables. With max/msp you can do just about anything depending on your programming skills. -

Re: aphex twin technology?
Fri, March 26, 2004 - 11:39 PMI heard he actually made his own sythesizers, all crude and mad scientist-like and that an engineer approached his equipment out of curiosity only to be quickly pushed away. -

Re: aphex twin technology?
Mon, December 19, 2005 - 3:58 PMOMG... over 2 years later and now I'm learning SuperCollider for Linux/Emacs. I didn't expect a Google search would lead me back to my long forgotten post (see top) that had turned into a thread.
All hail BBC Radio 3: Late Junction, Mixing It, and Between the Ears shows -

Re: aphex twin technology?
Mon, December 19, 2005 - 4:14 PMthis dude...
silvertone.princeton.edu/~newton/
...made his own synth using a small linux motherboard and supercollider...
it's effectively just a computer with a different tactile interface... but it's pretty cool that he is not limited in his dsp configurations... being able to expand it with supercollider.
he said that you could run PD... or java... or really any linux based audio app on it...
also... it's fanless!
